W02 Response to the discussion, "Is The Great American Teacher Dead?"
One question started spinning around in my head after reading the article: "how will the Great American Teacher exist?" The author, one of my favorite teachers, John J. Ivers, Ph.D. displayed a variety of parameters to approach the necessity of the presence nowadays of a figure that can fill the lack in academic society, A teacher, in my opinion, will take a lifetime of experience to be, always, in the construction of itself, to become a teacher. With brother Ivers's approaches being practiced and explored day by day, the great American Teacher can take his first breath again.
It calls my attention to the evaluation of the psychological and academic conditions of the students in America. Like competitiveness, poor teamwork, not relevant critical thinking. To plan a strategy, a teacher must think from where this starts, from the beginning years. So, all the teachers who play their roles there, here it comes, in my opinion, one of the most difficult challenges: to work with the families. Because I understand that every behavior is an outcome of an emotion. Many of these bad behaviors are mirrors of the living conditions of the students. (I am not talking about financial situations. only) I strongly support the idea that activities that include students with their families to engage them in building new values, will resignify their demeanor for good.
The teacher must cultivate his\her spirit and capabilities of communication every day, carrying a good sense of humor and resilience, aiming not to be a great teacher, but to build The Great Student.

Claudia, I like your post very much. As teachers or future teachers we need to accept that the learning process is a lifelong experience. So we need to work hard every day to be like The Great American Teacher.

But you must not beat up on yourself if at first you don't succeed. You muist try, try and try again. You will succeed with the Grace of God if you have a thought that is pure.
